“Remembering
is to put one´s hand in the drawer of an old desk and
guess about the objects kept in it, careless of time.
It
is to delve into our past,
and relieve them according to the scars they
have left us.
A
lonely musical sad and happy past, like the circus …
A sort of magic art, a bumerang that can bring us
to the
absents, the filed episodes, the faded perfumes or the
quitened sounds.
These
memories were born in New York from a commitment engaged
with my friend Antonio Rodriguez Villar, when he was
Director to the Readers´Digest Board.
He
had committed other artists and writers to express
themselves about the place where they were born.
The
proposal made me reveal events filed in the subconscious
where I had disorderly gathered events already lived,
imagined in dreams or in those which could have been.
It
also obliged me to revise the past time which have
appeared in yellow and dump books.
As
a restless observer, I interpret in my way, the meaning of
my Montevidean experiences.
Without
meaning to criticize or to praise,
I let myself be carried
from this far away place to make a summary of the
experiences obtained in my long trips.
I
just rode along my memory on the pathway of life”.
